About GEFID - Study Group on Public Finance Equality and Democracy

This is a Research Group registered in the CNPq Directory, with the purpose of investigating and analyzing the structural and conjunctural aspects of public finances, promoting a participatory and proactive approach to strengthening fiscal citizenship. Founded in 2015, under the leadership of Professor Marciano Seabra de Godoi from PUC Minas, the Group meets biweekly at the Mineira Law School, conducting research, debates, and seminars on topics related to global and Brazilian public finances, with a focus on the values of equality and democracy. Since 2018, the Group has also been conducting the "Fiscal Education in Schools of the Metropolitan Region of Belo Horizonte" Project, registered in the Extension Pro-Rectory of PUC Minas. This project aims to disseminate and promote knowledge and reflection on fiscal issues among basic education students in the Belo Horizonte region, offering interactive classes and lectures on public policies, budgeting, fiscal citizenship, and tax reform. The project has already reached more than 15 public and private schools in the region, covering from elementary to Youth and Adult Education. We believe that fiscal education, approached critically and participatively, is essential for the formation of conscientious and responsible citizens, preparing them to actively participate in the country's democratic life. The members of the Research Group work and research in a welcoming and stimulating environment, where academic rigor combines with enthusiasm for knowledge and commitment to collective well-being, social transformation, equality, and democracy. The Group is open to undergraduate students, professionals graduated in various fields related to finance and public policies, as well as postgraduate researchers, both lato sensu and stricto sensu, and others interested in the critical study of public finances. Join us and be part of this social engagement initiative.
