GEFWIN aims to penetrate the Wind Energy Market with an patented automated composites manufacturing process named Rapid Tow Shearing (RTS). RTS is able to steer fibers without generating defects, drastically expanding the design potential of composite components. RTS will be implemented in the case of a small scale wind turbine blade. A design computational platform will be developed concerning the efficient interaction of design and simulation tools for the optimisation of the blade geometry. RTS will be compared with conventional processes, in the context of weight and mechanical strength performance. Sustainability assessments will be performed to evaluate RTS environmental impact.
