Kalmthout is een Kempense gemeente in België in de provincie Antwerpen met 18.171 inwoners (1 januari 2013). Kalmthout behoort tot het kieskanton Brecht en het gerechtelijk kanton Kapellen. Samen met de buurgemeenten Essen en Wuustwezel, valt Kalmthout onder de politiezone Grens.
In Kalmthout bevindt zich het natuurreservaat de Kalmthoutse Heide dat deel uitmaakt van het Grenspark De Zoom-Kalmthoutse Heide. Dit natuurgebied loopt door tot aan de Nederlandse dorpen Ossendrecht en Huijbergen.
Kalmthout wordt doorkruist door spoorlijn 12. Dit is de spoorweg tussen Antwerpen en Essen (Nederlandse grens). In deze gemeente zijn twee stations, Heide en Kalmthout en een halte, Kijkuit.
Kalmthout is 5.945 ha groot en bevat vijf dorpskernen: Centrum, Dorp-Heuvel, Heide, Achterbroek en Nieuwmoer.
