About Gendered Resistance Lab
The Gendered Resistance Lab (GRL) is a digital platform and evolving archive that brings together over a decade of research led by Professor Cathy McIlwaine (King’s College London), in collaboration with researchers, artists, facilitators, grassroots organisations, and community leaders. Originating from work on gender-based violence in Brazil and among Brazilian migrants in London, GRL has grown into a broader, user-led initiative grounded in empathy, care, and connection. Combining social science research with storytelling, performance, and visual arts, it highlights how women resist violence and build transnational solidarities. GRL is both a resource and a reflective space—sharing data, testimonies, creative outputs, and collective knowledge. It demonstrates how evidence, empathy, and creativity can come together to support activism, inform policy, and inspire social transformation.
