Genome Ambassador Program

The Genome Ambassador Program is a student-led educational initiative within the UConn Institute for Systems Genomics that is designed to: * Establish student training in research, education, and outreach by providing early exposure and access to genomic science and career information * Promote self-confidence and empowerment in students with skill-training, knowledge development, and networking opportunities * Develop mentorship networks for students and faculty members * Increase genomic literacy by training students to communicate science as an inclusive and accessible language * Progress the field of genomics towards achieving greater diversity among students and career professionals The Genome Ambassadors strive to: * Engage members of the community in educational programs regarding topics in personal genetics and the future of precision health * Develop and improve scientific communication skills by interacting with scientists and the public * Become aware and understand the broad implications of advancements in the genomics field * Advance the genomic literacy of the community as a public education initiative * Instill a sense of empowerment toward self-confidence and direction in program members and partners
