Get2gether are an Edinburgh-based charity empowering adults with disabilities to live self-determined lives - the way they want to. We are member-led, with a professional staff team supporting a steering group to organise events for adults with disabilities.
We strongly believe in the power of lived experience, and employ ambassadors with disabilities to organise, promote and host events in the community.
As we evolved from being purely event-focused, we identified a need for life skills courses for our membership - often adults leaving full-time education. These are now run by a healthcare professional, in conjunction with our ambassadors. Alumni from the course will often return as peer mentors, imparting their experiences to the next course participants.
The Covid lockdowns have been difficult for charities, and for those isolated from society. We adapted our programme of events to being entirely online - which boosted engagement and attendance - but we are now moving towards a hybrid model of both in-person and online events.
