About GET Consortium
The Global Emerging Pathogens Treatment Consortium (GET) is a non-profit biosecurity think-tank comprised of leading academics in the fields of biomedical research, public health, epidemiology, & community engagement. Formed in 2014 during the height of the West African Ebola epidemic, GET was vital in mobilizing a concerted international response to control and combat Ebola outbreaks amidst widespread panic and biosafety unpreparedness against the Category A pathogen. We address ongoing biological, ecological, & biosecurity threats arising from emerging and re-emerging pathogens by conducting research, building/strengthening logistic and technological capacity, and programming the emergency health response in regions with heightened vulnerability. COMBATTING EMERGING INFECTIOUS DISEASES (EIDs) (1) Leveraging the lessons learned from the 2014 Ebola epidemic to adopt rapid response strategies against future disease outbreaks (2) Harmonizing the processes and timelines for getting vaccines (investigational and/or approved) to requesting countries once an emergency is declared BIOSECURITY & BIOBANKING (1) Reframing biobanking in the African region as a global security imperative; Increasing collaboration and coordination with the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) and UN Security Council Resolution 1540 (2) Promoting a more active regional collaboration and cooperation with the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) and World Health Organization (WHO) research and development (R&D) Blueprints (3) Implementing software solutions to facilitate data sharing and process automation SCIENCE COMMUNICATION (1) Informing the public on the key biosecurity measures which led to containing the 2014 Ebola Epidemic (2) Fostering scientific literacy and understanding on topics pertaining to EIDs (3) Strengthening a relationship with science as the world experiences socioeconomic and geopolitical polarization despite shared ecological, epidemiological, and environmental precarity
