Africa is one of the major continents in the world experiencing serious health challenges; most especially communicable diseases which are of public health importance. There is also an increasing trend in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases. These diseases affect the vulnerable groups namely; children, women and the elderly particularly in the rural African communities where there is limited access to preventive and curative health care services.
Government at various levels have been doing their best in addressing these health challenges but much is still needed to be done, particularly in the rural areas in curbing the spread of infectious diseases.
Due to these health challenges being faced at the rural and community level, Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) was set up to deliver healthcare services to the doorsteps of African villages, and to also bridge the gap between fresh African graduates of various fields of healthcare who have no on-field experiences in order to ensure productivity and goal actualization in the area of healthcare development particularly in Africa and the world in general.
Global Village Healthcare Initiative for Africa (GHIV Africa) was established in 2014 with the Head Office in Ilorin, Kwara State. It was fully incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on November 26th, 2014 (RC: 73725). GHIV Africa was founded by SHAGBA JUDE AONDOWASE, when he was a Postgraduate student in the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health, University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara state, Nigeria. It started with only two volunteer members of staff but within a short period it had over twenty volunteers comprising mainly of doctors, pharmacists, nurses, scientists, and other Professionals.
GHIV Africa sourced its first funds from individual donors with the sum of N450, 000.00 ($2,260) which was used in carrying out her activities within a period of 6 months.
