GIRLSofGRIME is an independent female-led grassroots organisation
steering change towards gender balance within the music business.
GIRLSofGRIME launched in 2017 and has since organically grown into an online & offline community for female artists and creatives behind the scenes too. Initially leading with our 'Female Takeover' movement, producing regular radio shows with Rinse FM, and eventually our own live showcases, including for Wireless Festival's Equalising Music, we are now an artist & creative development hub. We identify our organisation as the 'Big Sister of the Scene', and often advocate for women in music and share knowledge via various panel events - including most recently with United Development x Trench Mag and our work with the London Borough of Cultures.
In 2021, we have been awarded funding from The Arts Council, which supports our current GIRLSofGRIME MUSIC activation, producing records and supporting releases with three female rappers - Lauren Marshall, Ariez Baby and C Cane. We have also launched a one-on-one DJ programme, with support from Small Green Shoots & Pirate Studios and continue to use our online platform to profile emerging & independent talent.
