The Global Doula Project was founded in 2022 with a mission to transform how people experience birth and death by making doula support affordable, accessible, and culturally relevant to families around the world. We believe that no one should have to navigate life’s most vulnerable transitions alone, and that compassionate, non-medical support during these moments is essential to individual and public health.
Social isolation is increasingly recognized as a serious public health concern. This growing crisis of disconnection is especially acute during life’s most vulnerable moments, such as birth and death, when humans are biologically wired to expect support, yet are often left to navigate alone. In the absence of strong familial or community support, doulas provide a vital layer of care that bridges the gap between personal need and systemic inaccessibility.
We strengthen the broader ecosystem of care through three core focus areas:
(1) grants to doula organizations
(2) scholarships to promising, passionate aspiring doulas, and
(3) advancing the field through advocacy and public education that elevates the doula profession.
