Global Harmony Through Personal Excellence is a nonprofit organization in the District of Columbia sustained by volunteers. Its mission is to support the expression of children, encourage and engage humanity, and cultivate respect among all people. For three decades we have hosted two annual events to bring together diverse groups of individuals. Next spring, we will sponsor our 35th "Celebration of Youth essay contest for DCPS and DCPCS students in grades 4 through 9. Last year we awarded 64 students from 29 schools. We are beginning work on a collection of essays to be published.
This December, the organization is sponsoring an annual holiday gift drive for homeless families from Community of Hope and other families in need around Washington. Due to the pandemic we have amended our 30 tradition of visiting and singing to the elderly. Instead families make cards which are delivered to the residents and staff in the nursing home we usually visit. The cards are delivered the week of Christmas. In the spring we hope to rent a bus and take the children to visit the nursing home residents. Next year we want to return to our regular tradition of hosting families. We can give the families a strong hand up. People from all around the area donate gifts and root for their well-being. The moms & dads living in shelters are working hard to make a sustainable life for their families.
We be honored to have your support for the holiday tradition of over 30 years, for the springtime essay contest of 34 years, and for resources needed for the forthcoming book featuring young essayists. We want more people to know about young people in our city. Global Harmony Through Personal Excellence welcomes enthusiasm (including Face Book fans), skilled volunteers, and donations all year long.
