Global Supply Solutions Limited (GSSL) is a renewable energy company that focuses on the large-scale production of biomass briquettes from the waste leaves of the pineapple plant. The company began its roots as a supplier of wood fuel in large volumes to industrial multinationals for use in their boilers. Very quickly the need for boiler fuel outstripped the available supply of wood and that combined with depleting tree reserves and the growing need for alternatives to other fuels such as charcoal, motivated us to transform our business and become a leading supplier of an alternative form of green energy. After analysing several possible agricultural feedstock sources in Kenya we quickly realised the waste leaves of the pineapple plant to be an ideal option for biomass briquettes. This was based on there being a plentiful supply of this raw material, no competing uses for it and its very high calorific value. We are based in Thika, Kenya where we produce 50,000 metric tonnes of briquettes annually from our state of the art manufacturing facility.
