GMN supports energy efficiency and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction
Launched in 2024, the Global Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres Network (GMN) Phase II Project is led by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and funded by the European Union. Now in its second phase, the €10 million, four-year project focuses on facilitating portside energy efficiency measures, retrofitting domestic ships under 5,000 GT, and promoting sustainable shipping practices in developing countries.
GMN Phase II reflects the maritime industry’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13 on climate action, and aligns with IMO and EU policies on climate and sustainable development, contributing to targeted global efforts toward a greener, low-emission future.
