Whether you’re a bedroom producer, touring veteran, studio scientist, are constantly writing or just picking up an instrument for the first time - Goldmill is a space where we can reach out directly to the artists who inspire us for personalized feedback, mentorship and inspiration - from life lessons to creative processes and everything in between.
Most times, we were inspired to start creating in the first place because of a specific song by an artist, who holds the key to the beats, melodies and lyrics that move us in deep and personal ways.
But how does that happen? It’s not like a traditional curriculum can teach us exactly how to find the samples that create something that makes the hair on our neck stand up. Or for the more seasoned musician, how to avoid burnout on your first national tour. There’s no formula we can look up in a textbook or search on Google. And the same answer might not mean the same thing to two different people.
The artists we respect have acquired knowledge through many different inputs, bringing individuality to their craft, and that’s what makes them the best at sharing their perspective with us; explorers seeking our own sources of input.
Traditional methods (school, lessons, programs) can be good, but funnel everyone into a predefined set of rules and styles. We don’t need to replace those options, but we can augment them by creating access to knowledge, direct from the source.
We want to help the artists we all love with new opportunities to make their careers more sustainable and earn from sharing their knowledge and unique experiences with us. Artists’ economic structures were already over-indexed towards touring, with COVID leaving many artists without alternatives to recover. Goldmill celebrates the value of an artist’s life experiences and the platform gives them a new tool to help earn from sharing their expertise. We support the artists, and the artist supports our musical explorations: That’s full circle.
