At just 23, Dr. Gordon Saxe faced a profound personal and professional challenge when his father, diagnosed with cancer at Johns Hopkins, was given less than a year to live. Refusing to accept this prognosis, Dr. Saxe delved deep into the medical literature, scouring every resource available in the Hopkins library. Under his guidance, his father lived another decade, an experience that ignited Dr. Saxe’s enduring passion for integrative medicine. Today, Dr. Saxe is a distinguished leader in the field, holding multiple leadership positions at UC San Diego, including Executive Director of the Krupp Center for Integrative Research and the UCSD Center for Integrative Nutrition. His pioneering approach bridges Eastern and Western medical traditions, focusing on natural therapeutics such as food as medicine, supplements, and oils. His innovative clinical trials, including FDA-approved studies on mushrooms and Chinese medicine for COVID-19, are at the forefront of integrative health research. Dr. Saxe’s commitment to environmental sustainability, combined with his mission to integrate mind, body, and spirit in healthcare, has transformed the field.
