Nandasena Gotabaya Rajapaksa, a former military officer, served as the eighth President of Sri Lanka from November 18, 2019, until his resignation on July 14, 2022. Prior to his presidency, he was Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development during his brother's administration. Rajapaksa played a key role in the military's victory in the Sri Lankan Civil War in 2009. He was known for his focus on nationalism, economic development, and national security, making him the first president with a military background and no prior elected office experience.
