Community Government of Gamètì

Established on August 4th, 2005 following the signing of the Tłı̨chǫ Agreement, the Tłı̨chǫ Community Government of Gamètì is an autonomous public body endowed with powers and obligations akin to municipal administrations in other NWT localities. The enactment of the Tłı̨chǫ Community Government Act brought into existence the Gamètì community government, alongside those of Behchokǫ̀, Whatì, and Wekweetì, outlining their territorial demarcations. Operating as a municipal entity, the Tłı̨chǫ Community Government of Gamètì bears responsibilities encompassing community planning, public infrastructure, utility services encompassing water quality, distribution, sewage, as well as readiness for emergencies and fire protection, recreational programs, and enforcement of bylaws. The Community Government of Gamètì Council, led by a Chief and composed of 6 Councillors, undergoes elections every four years.
