At GP Liaison Services we have over 20 years of experience working with NHS laboratories supporting the improvement of community diagnostics.
Our mission is to prevent misdiagnosis for patients, to save NHS, STP’s, CCG’s, GP’s and other clinics time and resources through maximising the efficiency and accuracy of diagnostic pathways nationwide.
Pathology services in England are entering a phase of consolidation to support a new and improved diagnostics model. NHS Improvement has identified 29 potential networks, incorporating 105 laboratories who are now developing business cases and plans for change.
A substantial volume of the 1.2 billion patient samples processed every year in the UK will be generated in the community setting, at GP surgeries, at phlebotomy centres and clinics. Laboratories need to ensure they have an accurate understanding of the integrity of these samples, as contaminates can lead to false diagnosis, unnecessary prescribing and poor patient outcomes.
Preanalytical errors account for up to 70% of all mistakes made in laboratory diagnostics, most of which arise from problems in patient preparation, the primary sample collection and transportation.
Our role is to liaise with your community partners and identify what happens to patients specimens before they arrive at your lab, we measure and document preanalytical processes, identifying any issues that could impact the integrity of specimens.
We provide a critical link between the lab and its community partners, delivering training, removing variation and resolving manual duplication of results workflows, ensuring that your service is fully optimised and easy for GP clients to use.
