Established in 1924 on 5 acres, Government Polytechnic Muzaffarpur began as Tirhut Technical Institute, offering journeymen's training. Transitioning to diploma programs in 1949, the institution expanded in 1960-61 to accommodate 180 students.
Currently, this college consists of five departments: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, and Civil.
