"This is a place of healing, solace and comfort for children and teenagers and their families - where they can learn the skills to survive their trauma. It is a reminder that there are more good people in the world than bad.” Martha Jabour | HVSG Grace's Place is a world-first residential trauma centre for children affected by homicide and is named in honour of Grace Lynch - the mother of Anita Cobby. Officially opened on Thursday 2 February 2023 – the 37th anniversary of the murder of Anita Cobby, the Centre is an initiative of the Homicide Victims’ Support Group (Aust) Inc. (HVSG). Grace’s Place will provide affected families from NSW immediate assistance after a homicide and the highly specialised staff will be able to support children and their carers with accommodation, meals, counselling and activities. Children and families from around Australia can also be referred for inclusion in the programs that will be offered at the centre. Private donors, sponsors, HVSG families, government authorities and businesses have worked together to bring a place of hope to life for when the worst imaginable human experience happens to a child – losing a loved one to murder. Grace's Place has been delivered through $9.4 million joint funding by the Commonwealth ($6.1m) and NSW State Government ($3.3m). An additional $600,000 has been raised through fundraising efforts and generous donations to complete the construction.
