About Grameen Nippon

Grameen Nippon was established in 2018 as the Japanese affiliate of Grameen Bank, a microfinance institution established in Bangladesh by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Our mission is to contribute to poverty alleviation in Japan through the provision of small loans and other financial services (micro-finance) to persons suffering from poverty. The organization operates based on the 7 principles of Yunus Social Business ((1) the goal is not to maximize profits but to solve social problems; (2) it is financially sustainable; (3) investors recoup their investment, but no further dividends are distributed; (4) profits beyond the investment are used to improve social businesses; (5) environmental considerations are addressed; (6) staff are provided above-average working conditions and salaries; and (7) enjoy the work.
