About Grameen Nippon
Grameen Nippon was established in 2018 as the Japanese affiliate of Grameen Bank, a microfinance institution established in Bangladesh by Dr. Muhammad Yunus. Dr. Yunus and Grameen Bank were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for their work in helping the needy become self-reliant. Our mission is to contribute to poverty alleviation in Japan through the provision of small loans and other financial services (micro-finance) to persons suffering from poverty. The organization operates based on the 7 principles of Yunus Social Business ((1) the goal is not to maximize profits but to solve social problems; (2) it is financially sustainable; (3) investors recoup their investment, but no further dividends are distributed; (4) profits beyond the investment are used to improve social businesses; (5) environmental considerations are addressed; (6) staff are provided above-average working conditions and salaries; and (7) enjoy the work.
