This is not a program. It’s a reclamation. In the humid heat of a Port Moresby (NCD) settlement, a group of girls lift weights in a shipping container. They laugh between reps. They check on each other’s form. They speak truth in their own language. This isn’t a gym. It’s a singsing (ceremony). It’s where strength is cultural. Where healing happens in community. Where tok stori (story-sharing) becomes strategy. Grass Skirt Project (GSP) is a Pasifika-led movement transforming sport, gender, and health across Papua New Guinea. We don’t come with toolkits we build from the tools our ancestors left us. We don’t empower- we honour the power that’s already there. Our Flagship Programs Gymbox Shipping containers turned into mobile wellness spaces, rooted in ceremony, peer strength, and trauma-informed movement. 10 Million Strong A gender equality and youth leadership program built on relational power, kastom, and co-governance by girls, boys, elders, church and modern business. Hevea Cup & Wellness Expo A Pacific-grown sports & health celebration, where singsing, rugby, and wellbeing services are offered as gutpela sindaun (community balance). What We Believe Sport is not performance. It’s tumbuna pasin (ancestral practice). Girls are not “at-risk”- they’re already leaders. Health is not a service- it’s a right, a ritual, and a responsibility. Communities don’t need saving- they need space to lead. Our Promise: We are not your traditional NGO.
