Grassroots Rural Health Club

Grassroots is the preeminent rural health club in New Zealand. Since it's foundation in 2003 it has gone from strength to strength. Our membership has risen to over 1,100, which now includes a number of Nursing, Pharmacy and Optometry students. Our reputation and popularity amongst the student body has continued to grow and Grassroots is now considered one of the foremost student organisations at the University of Auckland FMHS. Well known for running events which provide high quality educational experiences, we maintain our originality by ensuring that the fun, rural flavour, which has inevitably become enmeshed in the culture of our organisation, is ever present. What we do: Rural Schools visits: promoting health and health careers to >1000 rural tauira (students across the north island) Rural health promotion trips for trainee health professionals Rural health week, ruralising the FMHS for one week of skill development and promotion of rural careers Rural health advocacy at University, DHB and National levels Rural Placement Scholarships Rurally flavored social, educational, skill-based events
