You are invited to participate in a study titled “Expectations vs reality: a comparison of employer and student candidates perceptions regarding necessary GRC skills in accountancy” conducted by Anoush Hakopyan, an undergraduate student at California State University, Fresno, in partial fulfillment of her research requirements for the Sid Craig School of Business Honors Program. This study is being supervised by Honors Program Director, Dr. Ben Ong and Dr. Fernando Parra, student mentor serving as principal investigator. You were selected as a possible participant because you are a student seeking to graduate with a degree in Accountancy, you are seeking a CPA license or you are an employer that routinely hires accounting students.
Purpose of the Study: The purpose of the study is to provide insight on the perceived significance of GRC skills for accountancy students vis-à-vis employers.
Procedures: You will be asked a few questions regarding your demographics and your perception on the importance of certain skills that relate to a company’s coordinated strategy for managing the broad issues of Governance, Risk Management and Compliance with regulatory requirements.
Duration: Your participation will take approximately 10 minutes.
Risks and Benefits: There are no foreseeable risks associated with your participation in this study. This study aims to provide insight to educational institutions regarding the readiness of graduating students in terms of GRC skills as expected by recruiters.
Institutional Review Board (IRB) Status: In compliance with the Policy and Procedures for Research with Human Subjects at California State University, Fresno’s Rule 3.5.2.F, this research study has been deemed “Exempt” from Institutional Review Board (IRB) because the research involving survey does not produce psychological stress, the subjects are legally competent, and the investigators conducting the research survey are clearly identified.
Compensation: You will not receive any compensation or payment to participate in this study.
Voluntary Participation: Your decision whether or not to participate in this study will not affect your grades in school or your standing with the California State University, Fresno or any other participating institution. If you decide to participate, you must be over the age of 18.
Participant's Rights: If you have read this form and have decided to participate in this project, please understand your participation is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. The alternative is not to participate. You have the right to refuse to answer particular questions. The results of this research study may be presented at academic or professional meetings or published in academic journals. Your individual privacy will be maintained in all published and written data resulting from the study.
