The solution: modular solar-powered cold stations for 24/7 storage and preservation. EXTENDS THE SHELF LIFE OF PERISHABLE FOODS FROM 2 TO 21 DAYS. Our solution is unique because it is affordable and accessible. We are creating a community storage unit where farmers do not need to pay the cost of the entire unit up front and do not need expertise related to maintaining the unit. Additionally, by making the technology solar powered, we ensure our solution is a net positive for the environment. With our solution, we reduce greenhouse gas emissions by preventing food waste, helping local farmers escape poverty and creating jobs for women in the community. Through this partnership, more than 3,000 smallholder farmers and vendors will be trained in post-harvest handling and storage, resulting in less food loss and higher incomes. The 10 new sites will potentially reach 2,000 beneficiaries, including 1,000 farmers, and save around 22,000 tonnes of food from spoilage each year.
