Greencoin

Greencoin is an alternative currency, which will be a sort of reward for the pro-environmental activities and attitudes of the residents of Gdańsk. All within the framework of a scientific project that shapes environmentally friendly behaviors. The idea for the project originated at the 2020 IdeaLab workshop organized by NCRD (Polish National Centre for Research and Development) under the heading "Cities of the Future - Services and Solutions." The Greencoin consortium consist of: - Gdańsk University of Technology - University of Stavanger - City Initiative Association - SGH Warsaw School of Economics - The Maria Grzegorzewska University - Oslo Metropolitan University Greencoin model assumptions: - ECOLOGY - the primary objective of the project is to promote pro-environmental behaviour - INCLUSIVENESS - the system should be open and increase accessibility to green solutions - MODERNITY - the system will be a digital currency employing modern technologies - UNIVERSALITY - after a testing phase, the currency could be implemented in other cities - NETWORKING - the system is intended to bring together actors and persons involved in environmental and climate protection - OPENING - from 2024, the software developed by the team would be open and freely accessible to the public
