Green Hill

The greater Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) region of Bangladesh comprises three hill districts Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachari and is mainly the homeland of eleven different ethnic communities who have been living in the region since centuries. It is also lived by a significant number of national Bengali population. It covers an area of 5093 square miles which is mostly hilly and inaccessible. The region is significantly different from the other parts of the country in terms of geographically, socially and also administratively. The ethnic communities have their own language, distinct cultural heritage, tradition and lifestyle. Due to various challenges and political instability that existed more than 2 decades badly disrupted the process of normal development which is why the region still significantly lags behind the national streamline of progress. Green Hill, a CHT region based non governmental development organization was formed on March 02. 1994 by some socially dedicated youth, development leaders and well educated philanthropists. Since its inception, it has been actively engaged in empowering the poorer and deprived communities with special focus on women, children, extreme poor, marginalized people, ethnic communities and socially vulnerable people living in the hard to reach and unserved areas. Apart from the CHT region, since 2020 the organization has also been actively working in some selected areas of the Cox's Bazar and Chittagong district and benefiting the marginalized and vulnerable communities.
