The Grid Foresight Lab, led by Dr. Hamid Zareipour at the University of Calgary, Canada, is focused on innovation in electric energy systems. The lab specializes in applying state-of-the-art predictive analytics, machine learning, and mathematical optimization to support the transformation, decarbonization, and resilience of the power grid. Its research addresses pressing challenges in modern energy systems, particularly as grids evolve to accommodate renewable energy integration and adapt to extreme climate events such as wildfires, heat waves, and other disruptions. Key research areas include: -Grid transition modeling to support decarbonization. -Large-scale energy storage integration into the grid. -Short-term and long-term electricity net demand forecasting considering climate uncertainty. -Short-term electricity market price forecasting. -Transportation electrifications. -Enhancing grid resilience in the face of extreme events.
