GRO Tribe, which means "to grow, to heal," was founded as a nonprofit mental health awareness initiative during one of the most challenging times in recent history: the COVID-19 crisis in India.
The idea behind GRO Tribe was simple but urgent: to create a space for healing, reflection, and honest conversations about mental health. In 2020, as the pandemic unfolded, millions were grappling with anxiety, grief, and uncertainty. The national conversation around mental health, already stigmatized, was further distorted, especially after the death of a well-known Bollywood actor. Media speculation amplified misinformation, worsening confusion at a time when people most needed clarity and support.
That’s when GRO Tribe was born.
We were a small but committed team of engineers and psychologists. Engineers managed operations and outreach; psychologists developed and delivered all technical content to ensure it was informed, ethical, and helpful.
Our mission was twofold:
1. To raise awareness about mental health, especially among young adults and students.
2. To encourage people to seek help and understand that needing support is a step toward healing, not a weakness.
We focused on higher education institutions, & students balancing online learning and uncertainty were among the most affected. Between 2021-2022, we ran 10 virtual awareness campaigns, reaching 500-600 participants across India. These interactive sessions focused on anxiety, emotional literacy, coping strategies, and breaking myths around therapy, offering a safe space to ask questions and feel seen.
We called ourselves a "tribe" because we aimed to build a community. At GRO Tribe, mental health was never just clinical; it was about becoming, growing, and navigating life’s rough patches.
Though the initiative is no longer active, this page remains as a record of what we built. For many, it was a first step toward understanding mental health, and for us, a lesson in leadership, compassion, and collective care.
