Success in STEM classes requires different skills and techniques than the humanities. We focus on tools and executive function strategies that facilitate reasoning and problem solving for each discipline. While our coaches have strong content knowledge, we work with the student to identify the content and resources provided by the teacher, target the key concepts that the teacher prioritizes, develop tools and study skills that enhance learning, clarify what the learner knows and the questions that remain, locate resources to have those questions answered, create a plan and organization structure to maximize learning, and evaluate tests and feedback for future improvement. While a tutor focuses on reteaching content, our coaches focus on how to be a better learner in this subject and with this teacher, for skills that are applicable beyond this STEM class.
