Virtual Reality and Multimedia Research Group - GRVM

For over 27 years, GRVM has been conducting research in artificial intelligence, computer vision, and human-robot interaction, creating solutions that bridge innovation and real-world impact. Through strategic collaborations in Brazil and abroad, we transform knowledge into applied technology, driving advancements in industry, education, and society. Our projects range from predictive maintenance and augmented reality in the energy sector, in partnership with Petrobras, Seagems, and CHESF, to advanced robotic navigation in the ARPON project, developed with LAAS/CNRS in France. We also innovate in STEM education with the ToyUI framework, a result of our collaboration with OntarioTech in Canada. Our commitment to cutting-edge research is reflected in initiatives that combine technology and social impact. We contribute to guidelines for adaptive and accessible AI in partnership with international institutions, while in the Grand Challenges Explorations program—funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and CNPq—we apply data science to address social challenges. We publish more than eight high-impact conference papers annually and actively participate in projects funded by CNPq, FACEPE, and the European FP7 program. At GRVM, innovation is driven by the talent and dedication of a diverse and highly qualified team. Our group, predominantly led by women, conducts research that makes technology more intuitive and accessible, fostering efficient and collaborative interactions between humans and machines. With over two decades of experience, we continue to connect Brazil with global research networks and push the boundaries of human-robot interaction and computer vision.
