Graduate School for East- and Southeast European Studies Overview

Graduate School for East- and Southeast European Studies The Graduate School for East and Southeast European Studies is a joint programme by LMU Munich and the University of Regensburg in which seven extramural institutions with relevant expertise in studying East and Southeast Europe do also take part. Since 2012, the Graduate School has been funded by the German Research Association (DFG) as a part of the German Federal and State Excellence Initiative (as DFG-GSC 1046). The Graduate School pursues the concept of integrated area studies and, thus, collaborates with related disciplines as well as other area studies. We support the claim that East and Southeast Europe cannot be understood isolated, but only in their interrelations with other world regions, enabling a differentiated and decentralised perspective on the processes around globalisation. Graduiertenschule für Ost- und Südosteuropastudien Die Graduiertenschule für Ost- und Südosteuropastudien (GS OSES) ist eine gemeinsame Einrichtung der Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München und der Universität Regensburg, die seit Oktober 2012 besteht. Sie vereint Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler aus 15 verschiedenen geistes- und sozialwissenschaftlichen Fächern, die zum östlichen und südöstlichen Europa, aber auch zu deren Weltregionen forschen. Darin spiegelt sich der Anspruch wider, Ost- und Südosteuropa nicht isoliert, sondern in ihren Wechselbeziehungen zu anderen Regionen zu untersuchen. Die Exzellenzinitiative des Bundes und der Länder finanziert die GS OSES in der zweiten Förderphase von 2012 bis 2019.
