About Grand Challenges Georgia Tech
Grand Challenges Learning Community brings together driven students from diverse disciplines to address some of the most pressing issues facing society today. With a focus on collaboration, innovation, social impact, and community, we create an environment where students learn to approach complex challenges through teamwork, empathy, and human-centered problem-solving. Guided by faculty from engineering and social sciences, as well as senior students who serve as team coaches and program facilitators, first-year students gain valuable skills in critical thinking, stakeholder engagement, and leadership. Throughout the program, students work in interdisciplinary teams to understand real-world problems, develop innovative solutions, and test their ideas in collaboration with community and industry partners. This hands-on approach extends beyond the classroom, fostering authentic connections and providing practical experience in effecting social change. The first year is just the beginning of the Grand Challenges experience too—students can continue refining their prototypes through advanced courses or get support for campus-wide entrepreneurship programs. Additionally, the Grand Challenges Global Experience (GCGX) offers an immersive study abroad opportunity to address global challenges through coursework, site visits, and service projects. In Grand Challenges, community is central to the experience. Whether working together on service initiatives, engaging in professional development events, or forming strong bonds through social activities, our students create a supportive network committed to making a positive impact. By the end of their journey, Grand Challenges alumni are equipped with the skills, perspective, and network to lead transformative change in their communities and beyond.
