Este projeto nasceu em Almeirim, Portugal, quando o biólogo João Cavaleiro teve acesso a um estudo científico que demonstrava que os subprodutos do café poderiam ser utilizados como um substrato alternativo para a produção de cogumelos. O interesse que ele sempre teve sobre micologia levou-o a desenvolver uma forma estável de produzir cogumelos a partir de borra de café.
Mais tarde, os seus amigos de infância, Tiago Marques (designer) e Rui Apolinário (farmacêutico), juntaram-se a este projeto para criar a estratégia de comunicação e um modelo de negócio sustentável.
