GWRideConnect is the transportation demand management (TDM) program operated by the George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC). The program serves the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford, which together constitute one of the fastest-growing regions in Virginia. GWRideConnect was initially formed under the name RADCO Rideshare in 1974 in response to the OPEC oil embargo, which drastically increased fuel prices and led to an increased interest in transportation alternatives to the single occupancy vehicle (SOV). In 2007, when the Rappahannock Area Development Commission (RADCO) changed its name to GWRC, RADCO Rideshare was rebranded as GWRideConnect. In 2024, GWRideConnect is celebrating 50 years of providing ridesharing services to our community.
