The Glass Decarbonisation Challenge In the next 30 years, the glass industry - like other European industries - must be completely decarbonised. The lifetime of a glass furnace is about 12-15 years. Innovations for glass production are therefore urgently needed now, because the year 2050 is only 2 furnaces away. H2GLASS aims to develop the solutions that glass manufacturers need to meet climate targets and make their sector sustainable by replacing fossil fuels with 100% hydrogen ensuring the required product quality and manages this safely. How will we achieve this? - 5 on-site industrial use-cases (Steklarna Hrastnik, Vetrobalsamo, Zignago Vetro, PTML Pilkington, Owens Corning representing 98 % of EU glass production + replicability demonstrator for the aluminium industry (Hydro Havrand) - 100% green H2 supply through a portable electrolyser - Application of digital twin technologies and development of smart production processes for predictive maintenance and easier monitoring of the system
