Neptune Energy en RWE zijn gezamenlijk in een consortium gestapt met de intentie om het offshore groene waterstof project “H2opZee” vóór 2030 te gaan ontwikkelen. H2opZee is een demonstratieproject gericht op de bouw van 300-500 megawatt (MW) elektrolyzer capaciteit ver op de Noordzee, voor de productie van groene waterstof met offshore wind. Deze waterstof zal vervolgens door een bestaande pijpleiding naar land worden getransporteerd. De pijpleiding kent een capaciteit van 10-12 gigawatt (GW) en is daarmee al geschikt voor de verdere uitrol van groene waterstofproductie naar gigawatt-schaal op de Noordzee.
