Habari Node Public Limited Company (Habari Node PLC) is an Internet Service Provider with its head office in Arusha, Tanzania providing standard Internet services and a range of other ICT based business solutions. The software division of Habari Node began after assessing the current need of the Tanzanian market and observing that many firms could not afford the high costs associated with the acquisition, maintenance and support of proprietary software from developed economies. To illustrate this point, after purchasing an accounting package, a change in our tax laws could require changes made to the software which would require the user to contact the developer in another country to assist with the change which in most cases resulted in huge fees paid. There was a need to produce low-cost software suitable for a developing economy like Tanzania, which would address the local needs but also contribute towards building a robust local economy by providing jobs. The software division’s flagship product PayTan, is gaining adoption throughout mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, also serving East African countries such as Kenya and Uganda. It is a payroll and human resource management solution meeting the needs of small to large scale businesses as well as the agricultural and manufacturing sectors.
