Hacking for Defense Stanford

Hacking for Defense (H4D) is a graduate course founded at Stanford University in 2016. Multi-disciplinary student teams learn the Lean Startup methodology and work with active Defense Department and Intelligence Community personnel to develop solutions for real-world problems. The H4D course is now taught at more than 55 schools in the United States and in four countries. It’s a program of the National Security Innovation Network (NSIN), powered by BMNT, Inc., and the Common Mission Project. Hacking for Defense at Stanford University is an effort of the Precourt Institute for Energy and sponsored by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The Hacking for Defense Initiative at Stanford University transitions academic technologies from the lab and emerging commercial products into viable defense capabilities. The H4D Initiative leverages its deep defense networks to align new technologies and products with critical national security needs. The Initiative also serves as a forum for collaboration by gathering government personnel (e.g. operators, engineers, researchers, and scientists), industry personnel (e.g. entrepreneurs, innovators, companies), and university academics to tackle the world’s toughest challenges.
