About Halifax Developmental Centre for Early Learning
The Halifax Developmental Centre for Early Living is a program operated by Halifax Association for Community Living (HACL). HACL is a grassroots, family-based, charitable organization serving children, youth and adults with intellectual disabilities as well as offering support to their families in the Halifax Regional Municipality. We are governed by a board of 12 volunteers. The Association is managed by an Executive Director and our programs are delivered by paid professionals and paraprofessionals. Today, education continues to be our main goal. The Halifax Developmental Centre for Early Learning provides individualized early intervention programs for children from 18 months to 6 years of age who have a broad variety of needs. The centre offers a full-day child-care program dedicated to typically developing children as well as children with developmental delays. We want to give each child the opportunity to reach their maximum potential and prepare them physically, socially and emotionally for public or private school, or other community options. We are proud of our exceptional full-time staff of trained early childhood educators. The Centre strives to maintain a ratio of four children to one teacher. We encourage on-going training to stay well aware of new developments in the field of childcare. HDCEL is pleased to provide opportunities for students looking for work experience in planning careers with special populations. This experience would be valuable to anyone studying Special Education, Recreation, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Community Services, Child Studies and Speech –Language Pathology. Besides program fees, our funding comes through a variety of streams including grants from the Department of Community Services and foundations, donations as well as fundraising efforts. Rates: We strive to keep competitive rates at $32.00/day and $33.00/day. Hours: Open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday to Friday.
