Founded in 2016 by father-daughter team JiaYing Han and YiYi Han, HAN is a luxury womenswear brand comprised of modern, minimalist pieces punctuated by interesting details.
At the heart of HAN’s brand identity is a collaboration between JiaYing and YiYi, who represent two generations of Chinese artists. Graphic designer JiaYing grew up in China with a traditional upbringing influenced by classical teachings. His values and philosophies are deeply rooted in Confucianism which centers on the idea that there are moral obligations that an individual must follow. JiaYing incorporates traditional Chinese elements of calligraphy, ink painting, and symbols which depict nature into his artwork. On the other hand, filmmaker YiYi experienced Western influence from an early age, attending international school in China and moving to New York City during adolescence.
With this cultural dichotomy in mind, JiaYing and YiYi sought to found a luxury clothing brand that marries modern, minimalist style with traditional Chinese ideology. From there, HAN was born.
