I am a trained lawyer and social worker experienced the provision of mitigation services in criminal cases. In addition to my educational training, I was specifically trained in the art of conducting biopsychosocial assessments by the Superior Court of California for the County of San Diego. My assessments include not only direct and comprehensive interviews with the client, but also making collateral contacts with family members, employers, religious leaders, community members and others with important information about and intimate knowledge of the client and their circumstances, as well as obtaining pertinent documentation regarding any and all possible factors in mitigation of a client’s actions. Such information, as well as any relevant evidence-based research and/or law, is included then placed into an inclusive report format, to be produced to the retaining lawyer or defendant. A more concise court- and prosecutor-friendly version of the report is also provided to the defendant and/or lawyer. Further, I am acutely aware that, in certain cases, there may exist specific provisions of the law that a defendant may need to have addressed in their report. If made aware of these provisions in advance, I will be sure to include them in my assessment and subsequent report.
