Construction of the new US 181 Harbor Bridge Project (HBP) is the culmination of years of research, dedication, collaboration, and public participation involving many local entities under the leadership and direction of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Joint venture partners Flatiron/Dragados, LLC. (FDLLC) are the developers responsible for replacing the existing Harbor Bridge and reconstructing portions of US 181, IH 37, and SH 286 (Crosstown Expressway). The project includes developing, designing, constructing, and maintaining 6.44 miles of bridge and connecting roadway. The bridge comprises six-lane sections of US 181, three lanes in each direction with a median, barrier, shoulders, and a bicycle and pedestrian shared-use path. Once the new Cable-Stayed Bridge opens to commuters in 2025, phase two construction will begin with demolishing the existing Harbor Bridge and connecting roadways.
