The Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases brings out-of-the-box thinking, fierce commitment, and scientific excellence to the fight against the global burden of infectious disease. IID conducts pioneering research into the biological, chemical, and genetic factors behind pathogens. The department’s 14 laboratories collaborate internationally and examine diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria, Ebola, Zika, COVID-19, cancer, and HIV/AIDS. Research highlights include: - Basic pathogenic mechanisms that could lead to better diagnostic tools. - The development of vaccines and other interventions for the prevention and control of infection and disease. - The identification of new targets for antiviral and antiparasitic drugs.
