HE ICARUS

ICARUS (Inflatable Concept Aeroshell for the Recovery of a re-Usable launcher Stage) is the natural follow-on of the projects EFESTO (H2020 grant agreement No 821801) and EFESTO-2 (European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 1010811041) and aims to increase the European know-how and technology capabilities in the field of Inflatable Heat Shields (IHS) with the challenging objective to design, realize and fly a demonstrator of a re-entry system based on an Inflatable Heat Shield (IHS). Building on the significant achievements of its predecessor projects, ICARUS's main objective is to develop an innovative re-entry solution using IHS, specifically designed for the recovery of Launch Vehicle stages. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101134997. The ICARUS project satisfies the requirements of the Horizon Europe call ‘HORIZON-CL4-2023-SPACE-01’ for the activity ‘HORIZON-CL4-2023-SPACE-01-22’.
