Heal Beirut, founded in 2020 in response to the devastating Beirut explosion, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers free international telehealth services to people in Lebanon by US healthcare providers. As the first organization to provide free international telehealth to Lebanon, Heal Beirut continues to provide its core telehealth services, all for free, in Arabic, English, and French, with a particular focus on addressing mental health needs. The organization leverages a network of volunteer healthcare professionals based in the United States, many of whom have strong connections to Lebanon.
Initially focused on providing remote medical consultations, Heal Beirut has expanded its services to include two key programs:
* Second Opinion Program *
Heal Beirut now offers a free, asynchronous second opinion service for anyone in Lebanon seeking additional medical advice. This program allows patients to receive input from US-based healthcare providers, offering valuable insights and potentially life-changing recommendations without the need for travel or additional in-person consultations.
* Mentorship and Professional Development *
The organization has also launched a comprehensive mentorship program aimed at supporting healthcare professionals in Lebanon. This initiative includes:
- Application and personal statement review
-Interview preparation
-Guidance for obtaining residency positions in the US
-Assistance with securing research opportunities
-Support for short-term clinical rotations in the US
These services are designed to empower Lebanese healthcare professionals and create pathways for career advancement and international experience.
