Hurting and Healing

We hurt, we heal, while remaining forever sensitive and susceptible to the unwitting wounds inflicted upon us by others, as we too inevitably cause injury to them, try as we may to avoid such transgressions. And while the varieties of our hurting are innumerable, so the myriad means by which we find healing also seem infinite in diversity. From evidenced based psychological therapies, to faith based participation in spiritual ceremonies, from meditation to mental reframing, from accepting our vulnerability to building resilience. However, while the academies and laboratories of education and research tend to privilege and promote healing strategies specific to their cause, health practitioners at the grass roots of helping professions tell a different story.For most practice an eclectic and highly personalised approach to helping people heal psychological hurt. Meanwhile, those in pain rarely find relief in a single strategy or source of support, but piece together an eclectic program of ‘what works’ for them. The Hurt and Healing Project seeks to delve beneath the surface of specific approaches to psychological therapeutics, uncovering the archetypal nature of psychological pain and recovery.
