The HealtheSteps lifestyle prescription program builds on the idea of promoting 'exercise as medicine'. Designed by Dr. Robert Petrella – a Family Physician and Exercise Scientist – and his research team, HealtheSteps is supported by over 10 years of research in chronic disease prevention and management. HealtheSteps is a lifestyle coaching program designed to address risk factors for chronic disease including sedentary behaviour, physical inactivity, and unhealthy eating. Participants regularly meet with their HealtheSteps coach to set goals and discuss strategies to improve their exercise and physical activity levels and eating habits. Coaches are trained remotely in the HealtheSteps program protocol by completing online eLearning modules accessible through the HealtheSteps website (healthesteps.ca). HealtheSteps participants are also supported 24/7 by our free, interactive HealtheSteps smartphone app (https://t.co/8bvmAgaoJr). This app gives participants everything they need to get more active – a built-in fitness test, personalized exercise prescriptions, goals, tracking, a heart rate monitor, and a virtual coach to keep you motivated.
