Healthy Minds Research Program @HMRI

The HMRI Healthy Minds Program aims to promote, maintain, and restore mental health and wellbeing across the lifespan. Mental health encompasses the emotional, cognitive and social processes that impact how we feel, think and interact with others in all aspects of everyday life. Mental health is not just the absence of mental illness. It is a state of wellbeing that empowers the individual to thrive in their environment physically, emotionally, cognitively and socially. HMRI Healthy Minds will generate transformative models of health care and social welfare. This work will be enabled by a robust collaborative framework that supports knowledge creation, exchange, translation and implementation. This collaborative framework will function through the creation of cross-disciplinary research teams focussed on addressing critical gaps in care by directly collaborating with key stakeholders, including end users, healthcare service providers, clinical and professional industry bodies, policy makers, government bodies and the broader community. HMRI Healthy Minds researchers cover the full gamut of clinical, implementation, translation and discovery research and span across stages of career development. They bring specialised expertise across diverse areas of focus (e.g., psychology, psychiatry, neuroscience, nursing, social work, occupational therapy, speech pathology, clinical genetics) and diverse approaches to knowledge creation and implementation (e.g., pre‐clinical and discovery science, clinical practice, education, translation of research findings and service evaluation). Our work is organised around key initiatives that address intransigent issues in mental health and wellbeing, bringing our membership together to tackle these issues by contributing their expertise in one or more Areas of Strength.
