Andrew Heaney is a small business owner and resident of the Town of Washington in Dutchess County where he lives with his wife and three children.
As the son of small business owners, Andrew grew up working at the family business- a heating oil company in College Point, New York. He answered phones, serviced and installed boilers, did door to door sales, and eventually received his Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with HazMat and Tank endorsements to be able to drive a heating oil truck.
Shortly after Andrew graduated from Yale University, his father Peter died after a brave battle with lung cancer. At 22, Andrew became the President of a division of the family business, a small heating oil cooperative called Heating Energy Affordable Today (HEAT). Andrew grew that company into the largest heating oil buying group in the United States, representing tens of thousands of heating oil users in 11 states. When Andrew was 27 and still running his business, he put himself through Harvard Business School and graduated in the top 10% of his class.
Andrew grew HEAT by securing endorsements from hundreds of civic, religious, professional and trade groups. In total his oil buying program was endorsed to over 18 million US households nationally.
Throughout his career Andrew has also been an active voice representing the interests of residential heating oil and propane consumers in the media, Albany and Washington, D.C. He has been a well-known voice on the issue of energy prices and their impact on middle class families and seniors on fixed incomes. He has been quoted and interviewed on the topic of energy prices by the New York Times, the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal, Fox News and CNN. He has also led successful campaigns calling on federal and state officials to investigate pricing collusion by oil wholesalers, as well as for the creation of the Strategic Heating Oil Reserve.
